Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
ETA Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 49 677 141 383) (“EtA Central”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, hold and disclose your personal information across the EtA Central website (https://etacentral.com.au), the EtA Forum, and the EtA Central community platform.
2. The law we follow
We handle your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Where we deal with the personal information of New Zealand residents, we also have regard to the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
3. The information we collect
The personal information we collect may include:
- (a) your name, email address, city, country, company or organisation name, and your category or role (for example, searcher, investor, advisor, operator or business owner);
- (b) membership and event registration details;
- (c) payment information, which is collected and processed by our payment provider (Stripe) and is not stored by us;
- (d) records of your communications with us and your activity on the community platform; and
- (e) technical information collected automatically when you use our website, such as your IP address and browser type (see section 11).
We do not seek to collect sensitive information. Our services are not directed at, and not available to, anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
4. How we collect your information
We collect personal information directly from you when you join the community platform, register for or purchase a ticket to the EtA Forum, contact us, or otherwise use our services. Some information is collected through the third-party platforms we use, including Mighty Networks (community platform), Ticket Tailor (Forum ticketing) and Kit (email). We also collect some information automatically through cookies and analytics tools.
5. Why we collect, hold and use your information
We use your personal information to:
- (a) provide and administer your membership and the community platform;
- (b) operate the EtA Forum and other events, and process your ticket purchase;
- (c) facilitate the member directory and connections between members (see section 6);
- (d) disclose limited information to our sponsors, with your consent (see section 7);
- (e) communicate with you, including sending you service messages and, where you have agreed, marketing;
- (f) improve our services; and
- (g) meet our legal obligations.
6. The member directory
If you join the community platform, your name, city, company or organisation name and category may be visible to other members through the member directory and member-to-member messaging. Other members may use these features to connect with you. You consent to this visibility when you accept the community platform terms. You can ask us to limit what is shown by contacting us.
7. Disclosure to our sponsors
We share a limited set of personal information with our event and community sponsors. The information we share is your name, city, email address, company or organisation name and category. We will only do this where you have given your consent at the point of collection, and you can decline without losing access to the core service.
Sponsors who receive your information may contact you, including with marketing. Sponsors are required to comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), which means any marketing message must identify the sender and offer a working unsubscribe facility. We are not responsible for the way a sponsor handles your information once it has been disclosed, but we require our sponsors to comply with their legal obligations and, where they store information overseas, to tell us first (see section 9).
8. Service providers
We use trusted third-party service providers to help deliver our services, including Mighty Networks and Circle for community platform hosting and payment integrations, Ticket Tailor for Forum ticketing, Kit for email communications, and Stripe for payment processing. These providers may collect, store, process and manage your information on our behalf to the extent necessary to provide their services, and they are subject to their own privacy and security obligations.
9. Disclosure of information overseas
Some of our service providers and sponsors store or process personal information outside Australia, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, India and the European Economic Area. Before disclosing your information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the APPs, or we rely on your consent. By providing your information and consenting to disclosure to sponsors, you acknowledge that some recipients are located overseas and that we may be unable to ensure the recipient complies with Australian Privacy Law, namely the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
10. Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include:
- securing passwords using password management software;
- restricting access to personal information to those who need it for legitimate business purposes; and
- implementing multi-factor authentication where appropriate.
We store personal information in the systems described above and rely on the security measures implemented by those service providers. While we take reasonable steps to protect personal information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
